Obligatory rugby post

Ok, I give in - I have no interest whatsoever in rugby unlike most of my countrymen, so I've been trying to ignore the Rugby World Cup and the associated hysteria for the past two months. However last night the New Zealand team won the stupid cup so I suppose I have to acknowledge it now. Token photo follows.
Can we all calm down now please? Actually it's been quite fun seeing seeing the country getting into the swing of things and putting up decorations, our little country village included.  We have had a lot of tourists through the village, which has been very good for the local cafe and shops (all three of them.)

  1. I echo your sentiments, Judith, but must admit I became sucked in to the national cheerfulness. After so many major disasters, the RWC was a spirit lifting event. Hate to even imagine what we'd be like if we didn't win! Those players must have felt as though they were at the front line during WW1 having to "go over the top" and fight in the muddy trenches. Totally insane game, but so were the Roman gladiatorial spectacles! And 4 Porirua girls won the Barbershop quartet competition in Texas. Even made the DomPost! Loved the Auckland concert on Maori TV with Teddy Tahu Rhodes (magnificent), Kawiti Waetford, (watch out for him to hit the headlines) the NZSO and the aging Kiri. Pat

  2. I know nothing about Rugby except for what I've read in Andy Capp! I try to watch but can never figure out what's going on -- although it holds my attention much more readily than does cricket. But, congratulations to NZ and I'm glad it's been good for small business!

  3. I'm happy to see your photo of our guys!
I too did not have much interest in rugby... but I did get caught up in all the hype over the past few weeks, ever since going to a game! It changed me... maybe not for the better? lol
