What I'm reading now

The sweet second life of Darrell Kincaid by Catherine Robertson. This book came highly recommended, and I can see why - I was laughing by page two. I had never heard of this writer, so I Googled her and found her website.  Not only is she a New Zealander, but she comes from the same city as I do (Wellington) and her birthday is only one day away from mine. No wonder I'm enjoying it. Remarkably, this is her first book and it's a humdinger.

I've been reading her website and I think I love this woman. She is a kindred soul. Her list of favourite books contains most of my favourites too, including the incomparable Molesworth series by Geoffrey Willans and Ronald Searle. I thought I was the only person in the world who read these books. Though I do take issue with the inclusion of Jilly Cooper, who makes me want to stick my fingers down my throat.

PS: this is definitely a girly book. Chick-lit even, though I hate the term.

  1. Thanks for that Judith. On my waiting list at the library.
Pleased she likes the Dark Is Rising series. Must reread them.

  3. I haven't found this in the English-language section in our bookstore. It looks like I'll need to order it online. But thanks for the review. I'm always looking for a good laugh (a well-written good laugh).

  4. Don't, Mitch, it's definitely a girly book and you'll probably hate it. (I have now edited my post to clarify things.) Also she is a first-time author and a Kiwi to boot so I doubt you'd find it anywhere but here.
