Village Flower Show

I spent all of yesterday helping at the annual flower show, which has been occupying a lot of my time over the last few weeks. Yesterday all our hard work paid off and we were inundated with entries and I spent a frantic few hours in the village hall registering entries and displaying them on the trestles we set up the night before.

A few years ago a small group of us were lamenting the demise of the flower show, which used to be a strong tradition but died out years ago. We thought we'd try our hand at reviving the tradition and tentatively held our first show in 2009. We were surprised at the support we got - not many entrants but quite a bit of interest. This show is our third and our most successful yet - I think  event has bedded in and it will be around for a while.

This rhododendron "Phyllis Korn" came first in its class and went on to win "Best in Show"

This will be a short post because I have to shoot down to the hall in a minute to open it up. Also it's difficult to use the computer with my eyes in their present state - everything takes longer. Roll on Monday, when I am having my second eye op, and then I'll have eyes that both see the same thing, which will be a relief.

  4. It's a tradition that's faded in a lot of places. I'm glad that you and your friends have been able to bring it back. There is so much beauty concentrated in one place.
