Banana awfulness

Having spent a lot of my life in one library or another (my working life was spent in libraries and hospitals - an interesting mix) I like to keep a professional eye on Awful Library Books. It recently came up with its Best of 2011 list, and I particularly loved this one - how can you resist a title like "Be bold with bananas!" (Answer: easily.)
Have you ever seen anything so repellent as that cover photo? No? Well, just scroll on down. (Warning: Not suitable for those of a nervous disposition.)
I did warn you! This, my friends, is a banana candle. It is meant to be a centrepiece for your festive table. Not in this lifetime.

I was intrigued enough to check out this title further and I found that it originated from New Zealand. Horrors! Who knew there was a "Banana Control Board"!? I would love to own a copy of this to add to my cookbook collection.

  1. Well at least you didn't include a picture of someone eating the centre-piece, Judith...

  2. Oh my gosh. That candle is X-rated. Not suitable for viewing by children.

  3. After I wrote my comment, I went to the Amazon link. I laughed SO HARD at the one and only review, which gave it one star. The lengthy review itself was hilarious. To quote from the review..."If someone brought this (the banana candle) into my home, I would slap them, and then burn my house down and salt the ground where it stood." I am still laughing as I type this.

Thank you for this Judith. Really truly thank you.

  4. Fabulous, isn't it Grace! The review originally appeared on BookRiot, with photographs! http://bookriot.com/2011/11/30/when-used-books-attack-banana-edition/

  5. Presumably the author him/herself thought the same; I notice there's no claim to having spawned this masterpiece!

  6. This is truly awful. So much worse than "Joys of Jell-O."

Go on, say something! I'd love to hear from you.
