The vet decided not to remove the eye in the end, instead she did a less invasive procedure and "pinned" his third eyelid. It is secured with a sort of button thing. It doesn't seem to bother him at all and he is much more lively than he was. So lively in fact that is is impossible to keep his little protective cone on - he has it off in 30 seconds flat. I've given up trying to put it back on as the struggle distresses both of us. He goes back to the vet on Monday - 5 days away - so fingers crossed he doesn't scratch or otherwise disturb the button.
He has paralysis of the left side of his face, triggered by a very stubborn middle ear infection. This means he isn't able to close his left eye, making it vulnerable to ulceration, etc.
Oh dear. It's all rather worrying. My head tells me that it may have been kinder to have him put to sleep, but my heart tells me that he's not ready to give up yet, and neither am I. Fingers X'ed. Pets, eh? It's just as well we love them.
And to change the subject, this made me laugh:
I'm glad he is feeling brighter.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed he is going to be alright.
He deserves the chance you are giving him!
Wishing you and the poor boy well. I would have done exactly what you did. Clearly he's not ready to give up.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're back! Much love to your cat - I too would have done exactly as you did. I hope he behaves himself and recovers well. XO
