A damn fine cup of coffee

As a chronic insomniac I spend a lot of time on the internet, and I'm a bit of a sucker for online shopping. Especially around 3 o' clock in the morning. I find it very seductive, and I probably (definitely!) spend more than I should...but it's so easy! And living in the country as I do, a long way from any shops, it's also very convenient. Plus, it's fun.

And I do enjoy a good cup of coffee. Most mornings I brew up a potful in my stovetop espresso, which I love. However I am always open to suggestion. I kept coming across references to something called an Aeropress, which purportedly makes a pretty good cup, fuss free, with minimal faffing about, and easy to clean afterwards. Sounds like me, so I tracked down a local supplier and bought myself one. It arrived in today's rural delivery.

I've just made my first brew and I can report that it does indeed make a damn fine cup of coffee. However it wasn't all that faff-free, which to be fair is probably because it's the first time I've used it. Also when I came to drink it the coffee wasn't all that hot, and it required rather a lot of muscle to operate the plunger.  I shall no doubt get better at using it.

Anyone else have one? And what do you think of it?

  1. We use a plain and simple Cefétiere; jug, handle, plunger. It couldn't be simpler, and makes a perfect cup of coffee every time.... we grind our own (heated in a heavy frying pan) coffee too.

  2. Ever since I drank a whole cafetere at work and my BP rose dangerously high I stick to instant... But a quality instant..... I do love strong coffee

  3. Ooo! That looks interesting! My lady likes strong coffee too. She has a French press but more often she uses her cheapo Mr. Coffee drip. She orders coffee from Green Mountain in Vermont. Her favorite is the Sumatran Lake Tawar. She doesn't get coffee from there very often due to the cost, because you can still get Maxwell House (blech) for a couple of dollars at the store.
