Most of my working life has been spent in libraries, but in my younger days I trained and worked as a nurse. Now I have given up paid employment to cultivate the art of not working, and save my life at the same time. Life isn't always easy, but it's what we've got. Carpe diem!

Valentines and books

Tomorrow (February 14th) isn't just St Valentine's Day, it's also International Book Giving Day.  Give a book to your beloved instead of a bunch of roses!

Though Valentine's Day has never been a particularly big deal in New Zealand, there are quite a few romantics out there. Florists love Valentine's Day, not surprising when the cost of a single red rose can set you back as much as $45. Frankly, I'd rather get an edible bouquet.

A beetroot heart, or a bouquet of peppers! Hot stuff!

Or some bacon roses?

  3. Also, HOW did you get that picture onto your blog? I've 'pinned' it, but don't know how to get 'pins' onto my blog...

    1. Janet I don't use Pinterest so I don't know either! I just download the graphic I want to use into a file in my PC, and then use Blogger. I imagine Wordpress has something similar?

  4. One day I'll make those bacon roses. They're in Tim Ferriss's book aren't they?
